BREITNER GIRL IN A KIMONO Details
Between 1893 and 1896 Breitner painted thirteen pictures of a girl wearing a red, white or blue kimono. His model was Geesje Kwak, only sixteen when she posed for the first time. Her young innocent face and slender body contribute to the atmosphere of tender sensuality charachterizing these works. In 2016 the Rijksmuseum presented all "kimono girls" together for the first time. This was a unique opportunity to study the making of these iconic masterworks. Exquisite catalogue designed by Irma Boom. English language edition.
